Standard Golf Instruction - Lessons
Golf School - Golf Instruction - Golf Lesson - Golf Academy
Courtenay, BC, Vancouver Island, Canada
One Hour Private Lesson (1-2 people): $100
- This is the lesson that started it all. For one person it is the best way to interact with an instructor for the most productivity. For two people it can be a little less intimidating if one or both of them aren't very confident in their abilities.
30 Minute Private Lesson: $75
- This lesson is intended for students who have taken lessons previously and are essentially coming for a tune-up. It is not long enough to introduce a student to a completely new swing concept.
Both of the lesson types above can be packaged into a series of 4 lessons. A one-hour series is $350 and a 1/2-hour series is $250.
Clubfitting: See the game/equipment evaluation page.
Corporate Clinics (10-200 people): Prices vary
- These fully customizable 1-hour clinics are a great way to impress key staff or clients. They are structured so that everyone a chance to interact with a pro and learn a few new things. They can be catered to showcase our professional's playing abilities (nearly 10 years of Tour experience), be rigorous training sessions or a variety of fun golf contests. What a great way to break up a day of meetings!
Playing Lessons: $100/hour plus golf
- Sometimes a student learns best on the course. This is where John's extensive competitive career really separates him as an instructor. Course management, attitude and scoring ability are the focus rather than swing fundamentals. For players with intermediate and higher skills, just a few holes with John can help to drop their handicaps through understanding their true strengths and weaknesses.
Daily Golf Schools (2 - 6 people): $300 1 day, $250 2+ days
- The Daily golf school is available from March 8 th until Thanksgiving Weekend. Direct contact with the instructor is critical. John runs almost all of these schools which offer the participant a well structured yet flexible learning opportunity that encompasses more than a single private lesson ever could.

Other Instruction
In addition to the menu of lessons from the Crown Isle Academy above, John offers the following lesson options:
Annual Coaching: from $1000
- If you want to make the most improvement possible you need a plan, a good work ethic and someone to guide and push you when you need a push. That is the premise behind the annual coaching program. The program involves outlining a practice and play schedule for the next year based on periodized training. It is only intended for individuals with a strong commitment to the improvement of their games regardless of skill level.
Entertainment Outings: Rate varies
- If you have a small group of clients that you would like to entertain with a professional who can display both instructional and perfomance abilities then book John for an entertainment outing. John will help to arrange an informal group instruction and round of golf at the course of your choosing. John's rate would be in addition to any expenses incurred.
Daily School Itinerary
Day One Only:
8:00 am: 90 minute 'Overview of Golf' seminar.
The seminar covers numerous subjects in this short time frame. The information is essential at all playing levels but for the introductory student the material covered is critical in order to get the most enjoyment possible out of the game.
Materials covered include:
- Physical Conditioning from a golf perspective
- Nutritional importance for performance
- Golf The Game
- Essential technical fundamentals for the full swing
- Posture and how it relates to biomechanics
- Ball Flight laws
- Clubfitting dynamics
- Basic Psychology and strategy
- Goal Setting
- Developing plans for achieving your goals
Students will receive a seminar booklet that summarizes the information and has space for note-taking (there will NOT be a test). Research has shown that it takes one to two days for the brain to fully process information into memory.
Discussion is encouraged during the entire School so students will have the opportunity to have their questions answered at any time.
Every student will be benchmarked by some simple tests and drills at the begining of the school so they can measure their progress over time.
9:30 am - 10 am: Proper warm-up for golf and Q & A period for the students.
The itinerary that follows is the same for any of the days:
10 am - 11 am: Module 1 (Chipping and Pitching with focus on clubface awareness)
11 am - 11:15: Break
11:15 - 12:15: Module 2 (Full swing fundamentals adding the focus on club path)
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch
1:15 - 2:15: Module 3 (Short Game scoring, putting, bunker play, trouble shots)
2:15 - 2:30: Break
2:30 - 3:30: Module 4 (Full swing review and contact drills)
3:30 - 3:45: Wrap-up
3:45 - Dark: Free Time
The 'training portion' of the day, which is the ongoing segment of the schools, is focused on traditional driving range and short game drills and exercises. The breaks are designed for the student to 'get away' from the intensity of the day so that each module is met with freshness and enthusiasm.
At 3:45pm the days instruction comes to an end. Students are welcomed to continue practicing drills they have been shown. Golf is included after 4pm as are unlimited range balls.
On subsequent days, the structure is the same as before (breaks and all) but the expectations of the student and instructor, with regard to effectiveness, increase. This is where the flexibility in the structure is paramount. A 'die hard' player might really want to be pushed while a couple wanting to improve their games without much stress would not. Yet both of these people can practice side by side and achieve their goals.
For very intense or elite players, add-ons can be customized where the instructor and student focus on more specific tasks such as Schedule Planning, specific work out techniques and so on. These are available for an additional fee. |
